BreezoMeter Closes $30 Million Series C to Bring Street-Level Environmental Intelligence to Consumers Through Cars, IoT Devices and Other Connected Experiences

June 28, 2021 By admin Leave a Comment

The Company Works with Hundreds of Brands to Predict and Prevent Micro-Local Environmental Hazards that Impact Consumers’ Health; Fortissimo Capital and Entrée Capital Led the Funding Round

HAIFA, Israel – BreezoMeter, the company that delivers street-level air quality, pollen, pollutants and fire data to consumers through connected devices in 100+ countries, today announced the close of its $30 million Series C funding round. The new funding brings its total funding to date to $45M.

The round was led by Fortissimo Capital, an Israeli private equity investment group with $1.6 under management, together with Entrée Capital, which has backed BreezoMeter since its founding. Existing investors JumpSpeed Ventures, Launchpad Digital Health, AxessVentures and Eurazeo also participated in the round.

The funding comes as BreezoMeter enters the advanced stages of developing its new monitoring, forecasting and alert systems for environmental hazards, such as air pollution, pollen and fires. The funding will additionally fuel the development of products that transform real-time environmental data into actionable insights, so that individuals can make informed decisions about when to go outside, how to best protect themselves, which travel routes to take, and even where to live.

Companies, including AstraZeneca, Bosch, Dyson, Verizon Media, L’Oréal and hundreds of others, currently use Breezometer’s Air Pollution, Pollen and Fire APIs to deliver air quality recommendations to consumers through their mobile apps, smart home IoT devices, cars and other connected experiences. In December 2020, BreezoMeter’s environmental data additionally became available to iPhone users through the Apple weather app.

According to the World Health Organization, more than 91% of the world’s population lives in areas where air pollution exceeds its established guideline limits. Additionally, approximately 8.9 million annual deaths are attributed to air pollution. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in devastating health impacts for millions of people around the world, has further highlighted the negative effects of air pollution exposure on our health. Multiple studies have found a link between exposure to hazardous air pollutants and increased COVID-19 death rates.

BreezoMeter combines data from multiple sources — including more than 47,000 sensors worldwide, meteorological data and satellites that track weather, fire and sandstorm events, as well as live traffic information. It detects 12 species of pollen and 34 different pollutants, allowing it to forecast air pollution up to 96 hours and allergens three days ahead of time. BreezoMeter uses AI and machine learning to gather this intelligence in real time and deliver it to consumers at street-level acuity (~5 meters) in 100+ countries.

“Demand for our air quality intelligence has only grown since the pandemic shone a spotlight on respiratory wellness and now, hundreds of millions of people use the information BreezoMeter provides daily,” said Ran Korber, CEO at BreezoMeter. “Our models predict environmental hazards, like pollen and forest fires, which have a negative impact on respiratory health. We use this data to deliver real-time recommendations so people can avoid these dangers. With this new round of funding, we have more resources to refine and scale our three-part model: data infrastructure, technology and delivery to consumers through connected devices and experiences. We are additionally developing new products that give people more control over their health.”

Amid a growing body of research pointing to the widespread health and economic impacts of air pollution, demand for BreezoMeter’s micro-local environmental insights and its partnerships within the healthcare industry have accelerated. The number of API calls more than doubled from 400 million to over 800 million over the course of 2020.

“We’re realizing our vision thanks to our top-tier engineers and scientists, who are the best minds in their fields,” added Emil Fisher, BreezoMeter’s co-founder and CTO. “With the backing of highly professional venture capitalists, there is infinite potential for both social and economic impact. We are currently recruiting new employees who have a burning desire to join our mission and improve the health of billions of people all over the world.”

BreezoMeter’s environmental intelligence is delivered through three primary APIs and in use by hundreds of companies in the healthcare, smart home, air purification, automotive, lifestyle and cosmetics industries to increase user engagement and sales, and positively impact lives.

Over the next year, BreezoMeter plans to triple its employee roster and create new collaborations with a number of international companies.
